In 1993, the culmination of a 5 year plan, and a $1,000,000.00 Founder’s Gift, established the RNS Regional CancerCenter at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.
At the center, a team of specialists work with the patients from the diagnosis stage through treatment choices. The center has one of the most advanced radiation treatment pieces of equipment in the region, being one of theonly facilities to provide AcQsim, the most sophisticated tumor localization technology available.
In 1968, RNS was the FIRST organization to provide a Cobalt Unit to the South Jersey Area, allowing for treatment of patients in this area instead of traveling to Philadelphia for their treatments. A mammography Unit, Cryostat, Endoscope, Stereotactic, Platelet Agrogometer and Microscopes were also donated. A Drug/Oncology Clinic was established with future donations being pledged.
In 1978, a Linear Accelerator and HIS Bundle were given to the Mainland hospital. In 1981, a Computerized Tomography Scanner (CT Scan), valued at $600,000.00, and a Microscope for the Oncology Clinic were given, and in 1986, a Simulator.
In 1993 the first Mobil Mammography Van was purchased for $400,000.00 and operating expenses of $285,000.00 and $190.000.00 were later made to help keep the van operating and in good working order.
In 1995, The Rose Newman Live at Home Hospice was established at a cost of ($510,000.00).
In 2007 the second Mobil Mammography Van was purchased at a cost of $750,000.00. This Van is still operating today.
IN ALL, A TOTAL OF OVER $5,000,000.00 HAS BEEN DONATED TO THE 2 CANCER CENTERS ALONE BY THE RNS CANCER & HEART FUND.
